The large-scale rain or snow process took place in North China firstly and the type of precipitation began to change from rain to snow orderly from 3 to 5 November 2012. It is very difficult to forecast. At the same time, the thermal vertical structure is a critical factor in determining the precipitation type. The analyses of the interrelation between the thermal structure and precipitation type was done. The results show that the fine distinction of thermal structure determine the final type of precipitation which fall on surface. Moreover, in the transition process from rain to snow the thermal vertical structure will change due to the melting effect while the frozen precipitation aloft fall.
