  • The dynamic effects of the orography of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau on the air current passing the mountain are studied with the inviscid and adiabatic barotropic primitive equations with the Lagrangian advective scheme. The grid length is 1°×1° longitude and latitude, and the real topography is interpolated to the fine mesh points by the double tri-spline function. The dynamic effects of the motion flowing around, crossing over, as well as both flowing around and crossing over the plateau are separately experimented with several different initial fields. The results show that the orographic effect may make the low vortex occur on the main part and its eastern side of the plateau when the flows passing the plateau, especially the forced ascending motion has direct and major influence; in the process of the vortex formation the occurrence of the low vortex is quite independent with the initial field and the different initial fields finally tend to have a similar height field under the dynamic influence of the orographically forced climbing motion; and that the genesis and maintenance of both the large Eastern Asian troughs as well as the lows on the Bay of Bengal may have a certain relations with the dynamic effect of the topography of the plateau; and that the existence of easterlies in the low latitude is favourable for the genesis and maintenance of the Indian Low.
