- Based on the climatic data on Tibetan Plateau area and refering to the midlatitude and tropical model atmospheres, we have tentatively defined the plateau model atmospheres in the four seasons intended to meet the need for radiative transfer research on the plateau area.

- Abstract ( ) PDF (449KB) ( )
- We primarily discuss orographic effect on the synoptic system, and study the problems of lee cyclogenesis in the baroclinic atmosphere. The basic motion equations are simplified by perturbation method. The equations are computed by FFT numerical method with actual orography of Qinghai-Xizang Plateau and Rocky Mountains. We consider variant factors that effect on orographic disturbances, such as various shapes of mountain, vertical shear of wind and atmospheric stratification. The results show that the orographic disturbances are consistent with the statistical results of lee cyclones of Qinghai-Xizang Plateau and Rocky Mountains; atmospheric stratification is most sensitive to orographic disturbances.

- In this paper, we have made a preliminary analysis of ice and snow crystals and lareg hydrometeor particles within natural precipitation clouds in summer over Guizhou Province. The main results are:(1) The mean concentration of ice and snow crystals is lower than that in the Northern China and with higher values in the regions of clouds where is more liquid-watre content there.(2) The frequency-distribution spectrum of the concentrations of the ice and snow crystals in the cumulus clouds is apparently with a peak around the mean values. The difference between the maximum and the mean values is less than an order of magnitude.(3) There are obvious differences between the spatial distributions of ice and snow crystals and large hydrometeor particles.(4) The ice and snow crystals precipitate maybe from the warm parts of cumulus congestus.(5) The process of the transformation to solid phase, ice and snow crystals, must be considered in the studies about natural cloud precipitation and its artificial seeding in summer over Guizhou Province.
- CALCULATING THE EFFECT OF CLOUD LAYER ON THE RADIATION USING SOUNDING DATA
- Wei Shaoyuan;Lin Xihuai
- 1988 Vol. 7 (2): 135-144.
- Abstract ( ) PDF (633KB) ( )
- The radiation features of the Mei-yu fronts are investigated in the Jiang-Huai area. The effects of the cloud on solar radiation and longwave radiation are considered particularly. In the calculation, it is assumed that the distribution of the cloud with height depends mainly on the atmospheric moisture. The results present the radiative characteristics of the various kinds of cloud in the realistic atmosphere.
- CHARACTERISTICS OF RADIATION AT WUDAOLIANG REGION

- 1988 Vol. 7 (2): 145-155.
- Abstract ( ) PDF (735KB) ( )
- In this paper the climatological characteristics of surface radiation budget at Wudaoliang station in the period of Sino-America cooperationa Expedition of 1986 are analysed. The climatological characteristics of surface radiation budget at Wudaoliang station during summer are as follows: The direct solar radiation was strong. Air was clean. Transparency of atmosphere was higher. The main components of attenuation of solar radiation in atmosphere were molecular scatter and ozone absorption. The main component of solar short-wave radiation was diffuse radiation. The albedo values were 0.13 in VIS and 0.25 in NIR at surface, and there was small difference between the Av and AH at snow cover. It was evident that albedo is affected by soil moisture. when solar height angle is lower, there were different changing tendency of albedo at different wave-bands. It was about 0.90 in surface emissivity. The surface net radiation and heat source intensity were strong. U.V. radiation was strong and its ratio to solar thort-wave radiation was higher.
- RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE SOLAR ACTIVITIES AND THE THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITIES, THE ATMOSPHERIC ELECTRIC FIELD AT GROUND IN PARTIAL REGION IN CHINA

- 1988 Vol. 7 (2): 156-165.
- Abstract ( ) PDF (676KB) ( )
- The analysis of the relationship between solar flare, sun spot number and thunderstorm activities, atmospheric electric field at ground has been given using superposition epoch method for a full cycle of sun spot activities during 1976 to 1985. The results show that there is distinct correlation-ship for the high latitude region. The thunderstorm index increases obviously after solar flare burst and the maximum correlation date is beyond the fifth day after solar flare burst. There seems no discernible correlation-ship for the low and the middle latitude regions. This correlationship also strengthens with increasing of solar flare intensity and the effective region moves from the high latitude to the middle latitude. About two days after solar flare burst, the intensity of atmospheric electric field at ground increases and the correlation date is earlier than that shown by thunderstorm index. The results also show that there is no discernible correlationship between solar spot numbers and thunderstorn activties. This paper also generally interprets the possible reasons for forming the correlationship above based on the concept of the global electrical circuit.

- Abstract ( ) PDF (738KB) ( )
- In this paper, based on the 20 year's data, we analysed the monthly mean stratospheric circulations of northern hemisphere over 30, 50, and 100 hPa. Their spatial distribution as well as annual and interannual variation were obtained. It points out that the general circulation change of stratosphere over northern hemisphere from winter to summer appears to be the revolution from the vortex to anticyclone over polar region. The change in the higher layer about 30 hPa is in April which is about more than one month earlier than in the lower layer about 100 hPa. On the contrary, from summer to winter the anticyclone over polar region is changed into vortex. It is ended in August in higher layer near 50 hPa which is more than one month earier than in the lower layer near 100 hPa. All these results are useful for the seasonal prediction.
- DEVELOPMENT INTO DUAL LINEAR POLARIZATION OF 713 TYPE WEATHER RADAR
- Wang Zhijun;Cai Qiming;Xu Baoxiang
- 1988 Vol. 7 (2): 177-185.
- Abstract ( ) PDF (635KB) ( )
- A method developing a 713 type conventional weather radar into dual linear polarization one has been introduced. The main procedures include adding a high-power microwave switch, remodeling the feed-system of the antenna into dual channel system, increasing the pulse repeatation frequency of the transmitter of the radar and supplying a necessary digitised data processing system. The technical performances of the main individual components have been descriped, too.
